Phobias and Fears
The dictionary definition of ‘an abnormal, intense and irrational fear of a situation, organism or object’ fails to mention that a phobia can ruin the sufferer’s life. This is particularly true when the object of fear is something that they are likely to face on a regular basis, i,e, dogs, public speaking, birds, flying, insects, medical/dentistry, open spaces, lifts etc. Most phobics understand intellectually that their phobia is irrational, but are unable to control the extreme feelings of fear and panic that overtake them.
Fear, or fear based anxiety, is similar. Someone facing surgery, an exam or test, or having to face a future challenge can exhibit signs of extreme fear, such as sleeplessness, mood swings or palpitations.
No phobia or fear is too difficult, ingrained, deeply felt or complex to be untreatable. Thought Field Therapy (tapping) is utilised to break the connection between the thought (i.e, the object or situation that creates the phobia) and the fear that goes with that thought. Imagine yourself free of your fear, able to live a normal life.
